LAKE HILLS RESIDENCE
Designed from the ground up, this home embodies the spirit of modern Austin living, balancing openness with intimacy. Its form is shaped by the distinction between public and private life: the “public” zone—comprising the living, dining, and kitchen areas—occupies a single-story volume facing the street, while the “private” zone rises two stories and intersects it, creating a layered composition that frames both interior and exterior spaces.
The flow between the living and kitchen areas encourages a dynamic lifestyle, where movement and interaction feel seamless. At the intersection of the two volumes, an outdoor deck and pool form a sheltered courtyard, offering a place for gathering, rest, and connection with the landscape. Large windows and carefully positioned openings bring in natural daylighting, visually connecting the interior to the outdoors while subtly defining each spatial area within the open plan.

Through the integration of form, light, and spatial flow, the design creates a home that is simultaneously functional and deeply rooted in its context. It is a place where daily life unfolds naturally, and where the architectural expression reflects a thoughtful, intentional approach to modern living.

A contemporary interpretation of the gable form gives the home a familiar, approachable silhouette while emphasizing the entry and creating a welcoming presence on the street. Material choices and detailing reinforce this balance of modernity and warmth, allowing the structure itself to express both function and character.
